The World Health Organisation, Handa (a Chinese NGO) and the Local Centre for Disease Control are working in China to improve treatment, educate health workers and remove the stigma associated with leprosy. They are supported by groups such as the Liangshan Leprosy Project organised by Hong Kong Rotary and supported by our Chapel and other groups in Hong Kong.

In 2003 St Stephen’s gave an initial donation of HK$200,000 from a legacy to help start the Liangshan Leprosy Project and made a commitment to give $35,000 a year for 5 years. In May 2006, a team from Hong Kong made an initial visit to the Project in Xichang City, Sichuan Province in China with subsequent visits made in 2007 and May 2008 ( (for visit photographs click here)..
